  1. Were those books of the Bible actually laws? Or is there specific laws within we mat oray not find ridiculous?

  2. The first five books of the bible are called "the law". But there are laws in there you may or may not find strange.

  3. OK, I skimmed some. Some do sound really out there. But some sound reasonable, such as using the first fruits for God. I think in today's time I'd agree these were extreme but more because they sound like a man (like human) was writing them down under God's inspiration, sure, but as leaders in the community of these primitive times trying to establish order. I guess that's my hang up in the old testament, God sounded like man, felt like a man, directed like a man, even read literally, speaks like a man. That was always hard for me bc so much of my hurt has come from actions of a man. As I got older and read more of Christ's story of forgiveness I now try to read the law as a set of guidelines the people of that day andcage needed to work. Much like our modern day Constitution. I also believe in a more primitive time mankind did feel God's presence stronger BC they didn't have as many distractions technology brought. I still read it though and figuratively ask God, "Really", maybe I'm going to get in trouble for that but my brain questions. And he gave me the brain! :) Faith is hard, hard, hard for me. I want science. I want facts. But the feeling I get from Jesus's message, creates in me something beyond science. I guess that's my faith. Because, of that I can read these books of the Bible and try to get the message behind it, maybe not so much the literal. Whew, that was a lot!

  4. Those are awesome thoughts Nora! And I love it! Just always remember the God of the Old Testament and the God if the New Teatament are the same God. There is just a different way of relating to man in the Old Testament. Hence all the laws.

  5. You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard. (Leviticus 19:27)

This seems to me, at first glance, to be a rather unusual restriction on how a man should groom himself.
